Dragon Hair - Capelli da drago

Friday morning my big kid woke up in no mood for school, this is not unusual. As she does every morning, she begged for another few minutes of "rest" and she hid under the covers, giggling that she was a ghost and a rock and anything else that doesn't go to school. What did surprise me is that she asked me to give her dragon hair and when I said that I could only do it if she got ready right away, she got ready right away!

Venerdì mattina la mia grande si è svegliata con poca voglia di andare a scuola, niente di insolito. Come fa tutte le mattine, ha supplicato per qualche minuto in più di "riposo" e si è nascosta sotto le coperte, ridacchiando che era un fantasma e un sasso e qualsiasi altra cosa che non va a scuola. una cosa che invece mi ha piuttosto sorpreso era che mi ha chiesto di farle i capelli da drago e quando le ho detto che si poteva fare ma solo se si alzava subito, si è alzata subito! 

Fair warning: if you attempt this hairstyle on a school day you will be late.
It is deceptively time-consuming. I constantly underestimate how long this hairdo takes. On the plus side though it holds up really well and is kind of great for school since it keeps all hair up and out of her face.

Avviso: se tentate questa acconciatura in un giorno scolastico, farete tardi. È ingannevolmente lunga. Ogni volta sottovaluto la quantità di tempo che ci vuole per farla. Però c'è da dire che tiene bene durante la giornata e tiene tutti i capelli su e via dal suo viso.

It is relatively easy to do and it is very versatile, I don't think we've ever done it the same way twice. The sides are just your standard flip loop chain (see my post triple-flip pigtails for another flip hairstyle), the middle can be anything you want. I sometimes do two braids down to the nape and then unite all four sections in a four-strand braid. But that takes a ton of time, and who has time like that on a Friday morning?

È relativamente facile da fare ed è molto versatile, non penso di averla mai fatta due volte allo stesso modo. I lati sono una catena di giri (per un'altra acconciatura con i giri spizzatevi questa acconciatura triplo giro), la ciocca in mezzo può essere quello che volete. I a volte faccio due trecce che si uniscono poi insieme ai lati alla nuca in una treccia a quattro ciocche. Ma per questo effetto ci vogliono gli anni ed onestamente chi è che c'ha tutto quel tempo di venerdì mattina?

This is the basic style and any embellishments are gravy.

Questa è l'acconciatura base e quello che volete aggiungervi è in più. 

Section the hair into three parts, tying away the middle section and one of the sides.

Dividete i capelli in tre parti, legando la ciocca in mezzo e uno dei lati. 

The remaining section will be divided into four small pigtails, each looping and following into the next one. Start with the first section, closest to the hairline. This is going to be the most sensitive so be gentle. Make the first pigtail with one break-away hair band, leaving enough space to fit your finger or a tool for flipping ponytails through. I use my pinky finger but I first part the hair with the point of a rat tail comb. I insert the comb in the direction the hair will be going and fit my pinky through the hole from the opposite direction, then I use my other hard to pass the pigtail to my pinky which I hook and use to pass the hair back through.

La ciocca rimanente si dividerà in quattro piccoli ciuffi, ognuna girata e passata a quella dopo. Cominciate con la ciocca più vicina all'attaccatura. Questa sarà quella più sensibile quindi fate piano. Legate il ciuffo con un elastico piccolino, lasciando spazio per passarci il mignolo o un attrezzo per girare i codini. Io uso il mignolo, ma prima faccio la riga in mezzo con la punta del pettine a coda. Inserisco la coda del pettine ne verso in cui devo tirare i capelli, infilo il mignolo nel buco fatto dal pettine dalla direzione opposta, poi passo la ciocca con l'altra mano e faccio un uncino con il mignolo e tiro la ciocca attraverso il buco. 

Then I add the next section to the pigtail and repeat, flipping the hair through the pigtail that feeds into it.

Poi aggiungo i capelli della prossima ciocca e ripeto, girando i capelli e tirandoli tra una coda e un'altra.

I repeat this twice more. The number of pigtails is going to depend on the amount of hair you're working with. After the fourth pigtail has been flipped, move on to the other side.

Io ne ho fatti quattro di codini, il numero alla fine dipenderà da quanti capelli si ha. Dopo il quarto codino passo al altro lato.

On the opposite side repeat what you did on the first side, creating a flip chain along the side of the head.

Sul altro lato ripetete quello che avete fatto sul primo lato, creando una catena di codini girati lungo l'attaccatura dei capelli.

Once you have both sides ready, move on to the middle. Like I said above, I sometimes make this two braids or even three; sometimes we do flips or little buns all the way down. Dragons are whatever we want them to be and no matter what you decide it will look awesome! This time we did a French braid all the way down, adding in the tails of the side spikes when we got there.

Una volta che avete fatto i lati, potete passare alla ciocca centrale. Come ho detto prima, a volte faccio due trecce, pure tre; a volte faccio una catena di giri o delle cipolle piccoline fino a giù. Il vostro drago può essere come volete e non importa cose scegliete, verrà bene uguale! Questa volta abbiamo fatto una treccia francese fino a giù, unendo le code delle scaglie laterali quando ci siamo arrivati.  

I added the two butterfly clips to cover the rubber bands and add some color but they're not a necessity.

Io ho aggiunto anche delle mollette a farfalla per coprire gli elastichetti e aggiungere un po' di colore ma non sono affatto necessari.

After a full day of school AND after-school activities, this was her hair. It holds up so well, for extra hold I find that a dutch braid will really do the trick but this was definitely a success.

Dopo una giornata intera a scuola E ANCHE il corso dopo-scuola, questi erano i suoi capelli. Veramente tiene benissimo, trovo che la treccia olandese tiene ancora meglio però questa è stata decisamente un successo.
