Puff Paint - Colori a rilievo
Hi Everyone!
Ciao a tutti!
Today we have for you...puff paint!
I was not prepared for how involved this craft would be. Honestly though, the hardest part was keeping my toddler from flattening the cups while I divided the white paint among them and mixed in the food coloring.
They had so much fun with it though that it was definitely worth it, and the clean up was way easier than I had anticipated so it was a bit of a trade off. That's the beauty of shaving cream, easy easy clean up.
Both of my kids had a real aversion to having any shaving cream on their hands though so we wasted about 54000 wipes, next time I'm going to keep a clean wet rag around, perhaps with a container of water to rinse it in. Once they started using their hands to paint it was actually more tolerable for them, go figure.
But all in all, the mess was minimal and the reward was high.

For this craft you will need:
Shaving Cream (the white foamy kind)
Flour
School glue
Food coloring
One large container or bowl
As many small containers as colors (you could also use plastic baggies as pastry bags)
Thick paper
First, I filled my container with shaving cream and then mixed in one tablespoon of flour and one tablespoon of glue at a time. When mixing be conscious of the fact that you are trying to keep it puffy, so fold in the ingredients, gently. You'll know when it's the right consistency, sticky but still puffy.
Once you have a homogeneous mixture that is fluffy but sticky, and the four is well incorporated, spoon some of the white paint into the other containers or sandwich bags.
Add the food coloring for each color. We uses the gel kind because that's what we had, but I suggest the regular liquid kind if you have it.

P.S. There is an alternate recipe for puff paint where you just add school paints to the shaving cream. We haven't tried it yet so I can't vouch for it. But when we do I will upload some pictures and opinions, of which I will likely have many.
Oggi abbiamo...i colori a rilievo!

But all in all, the mess was minimal and the reward was high.

Carta spessa
Carta spessa
We had some IKEA construction paper left over from when we made our paper bookmarks, so we used the white ones of that since it is slightly heavier than conventional construction paper or printer paper.
Aggiungete il colorante alimentare per ogni colore. Noi abbiamo usato quelli gel perché avevamo solo quelli, ma suggerisco quelli liquidi se li avete.
If you used the sandwich bags then cut a hole in the bottom corner so the kids can squeeze out the color in whatever design they want. We used teaspoons and our fingers to create our designs, but you could also use paintbrushes.
