Painted Emptied Eggs - Uova Svuotate Colorate
Hi everyone!
This is is our first Easter craft this year! I decided to post this on Friday rather than the usual Saturday post because the eggs need to dry overnight so I wanted to give you time to prep.
Some people boil the eggs to avoid this seriously disgusting part, and no one likes the idea of their kids playing with raw eggs. I prefer this method because you can use the eggs. I made everyone eat scrambled eggs yesterday for breakfast and then we made homemade pasta with the second batch. Just make sure you catch any wayward eggshell pieces!
My big kid got to blow out one egg which she was pretty psyched about. It's pretty gross and I definitely had a few freak-outs about salmonella, but we survived it and the kids enjoyed painting the eggs.
For this disgusting job you will need:
Eggs
A large needle
A straw
Toothpicks (optional)
A large bowl of water with either dish soap or salt
I didn't get any pictures of the actual emptying of the eggs since I only have two hands and the only other adult in my quarantine bubble is utterly repulsed by anything egg-related.
Using the needle CAREFULLY pole through the top peek of shell (I find that twisting helps).
Then turn it over and make another hole in the bottom. I used a toothpick to make the hole a little bigger, but you can use the needle as well.
Hold your egg right-side-up over a bowl and put the end of your straw over the top hole. Blow, hard.
Once the egg is empty set it aside and continue with the rest of your eggs.
Wash your empty eggs in he bowl of water. If the hole on the bottom is big enough you should be able to hold the egg under water and it will fill up. You can use a toothpick to move the membrane aside to help the water in. You can also hold the large hole under a running faucet to fill it up if that's easier.
I let my eggs sit for about an hour in the water and then I shook them to allow the salt to get everywhere.
Once they are clean you can blow the water out of them the same way as before but a lot easier and much more satisfying.
Set your eggs out to dry overnight. You can dry them in a preheated oven on a very low temperature to speed things up if you need to.
You can paint them with watercolors or food coloring, you can decorate them with crinkle paper, or you could marbleize them using the same method as the marbleized paper (just let them sit for a minute in their foamy cocoon and then rinse them with cold water), my daughter even colored hers with markers. We used bottle caps to hold the eggs while we decorated them.

Ciao a tutti!

For this disgusting job you will need:
Eggs
A large needle
A straw
Toothpicks (optional)
A large bowl of water with either dish soap or salt
Per questo lavoro disgustosissimo vi serviranno:
Uova
Un ago grande
Una cannuccia
Gli stuzzicadenti (facoltativi)
Una ciotola grande d'acqua e sale o acqua e sapone
I didn't get any pictures of the actual emptying of the eggs since I only have two hands and the only other adult in my quarantine bubble is utterly repulsed by anything egg-related.
Using the needle CAREFULLY pole through the top peek of shell (I find that twisting helps).
Then turn it over and make another hole in the bottom. I used a toothpick to make the hole a little bigger, but you can use the needle as well.
Hold your egg right-side-up over a bowl and put the end of your straw over the top hole. Blow, hard.
Soffiate, forte.
